  • To produce musical notation that looks like the PDFs on this web site, please go to this page and follow instructions given there.
  • The tunes are available on this page as downloadable abc and PDF documents.
  • A searchable listing of tunes on the web site is here. You can sort them by any column.
  • A listing of the sources I used in preparing this web site is here.
  • There is a chord book available to download in PDF format for all tunes on this web site.

N:

N:This is a wonderful recording of the Norwegian Waltz; and trying to

S:$2Ward Allen Presents Maple Leaf Hoedown, Volume II.$0 Sparton, SP-210, 1958.

S:J. O. LaMadeleine, $2Pic About$0. Apex 16808, 78 RPM record.

N:This tune is quite widespread. Among old-time fiddlers in much of Canada and

N:the United States it's known as the Peek-A-Boo Waltz. J. O. LaMadeleine called

N:it $2Pic About$0 on a 78. I would guess that it was an attempt to approximate

N:the pronunciation in French. In Sweden it's a well known tune called

N:$2Svenska Annas Vals$0 and it's considered a Swedish tune.

N:

N:Here is a version from the playing of Canadian fiddler Ward Allen. I also

N:present elsewhere a version of Svenska Annas Vals. An old-time New England

N:fiddler would likely play a similar melody but with much less ornamentation.

C:George Wilson, as played by Jerry Holland

S:Jerry Holland, $2The Fiddlesticks Collection.$0 Fiddlesticks Music CD1, 1992.

N:Music written out by Lamprey River Band fiddler Burt Feintuch,

N:revised by Peter Yarensky.

N:

N:$2Playing note:$0 In measure A6, Jerry tied the two E notes together. The C

N:and second E are emphasized, with the second E being the strongest.

N:

N:I learned this from the recording of George Wilson. Later on Burt Feintuch

N:leared it independently from the Jerry Holland recording. After listening to

N:Jerry play the tune I adopted his version. This transcription is close to how

N:Jerry plays the tune, but doesn't capture all the subtleties of his playing.
